This morning tour takes you northwest of San Pedro de Atacama. We begin in the Rainbow Valley, exploring its colorful mineral hills and the unique petrified waterfall. Then we continue to Yerbas Buenas, a site with hundreds of petroglyphs and pictoglyphs carved by ancient caravan travelers. Your guide will explain their meaning and the connection between geology and culture in this area. Return to San Pedro around 13:00. Altitude: 2,600–3,200 m. Entrance: CLP 10,000 (paid on site, with discounts for students, seniors, and indigenous groups—see Rainbow Valley blog for details).
Itinerary
Departure from San Pedro: Pick-up between 07:00 and 07:30 and transfer northwest toward the Domeyko Range. Rainbow Valley and Petrified Waterfall: Walk through the Rainbow Valley, exploring the multicolored hills and the natural formation known as the Petrified Waterfall. Yerbas Buenas Archaeological Site: Visit Yerbas Buenas to learn about ancient caravan routes and see petroglyphs and pictoglyphs carved into volcanic rock. Return to San Pedro: After exploring the area, return to San Pedro around 13:00 with views of the desert and Domeyko Range.
