Journey details

The Hidden Lagoons of Baltinache are located west of San Pedro de Atacama, deep in the Salt Mountain Range. On this semi-private afternoon tour (max 8 passengers), you’ll travel through scenic desert landscapes to reach a series of turquoise lagoons with high salt concentration, where floating feels effortless. Two of the seven lagoons are open for swimming, and the surroundings offer perfect photo opportunities. After your bath, enjoy a cocktail before returning to San Pedro around 19:00. Entrance fee: CLP 10,000 (paid on site; see Baltinache blog for discounts and details).

Itinerary

Departure from San Pedro: Pick-up between 14:00 and 14:30 and travel west toward the Salt Mountain Range, approximately 45 minutes from town.

Arrival at Baltinache Lagoons: Arrival at the seven turquoise lagoons hidden among salt flats. Learn about their geology and the ecosystem of the Salt Range.

Swimming and Photography: Enjoy floating in two lagoons open for swimming and take photos of the contrasting turquoise water and white salt.

Cocktail and Return: After your swim, enjoy a cocktail with local snacks before returning to San Pedro around 19:00.

Recommendations for your trip

Bring swimsuit, towel, sandals, water (1 L per person), sunscreen, hat, sunglasses, and a light jacket. Avoid jewelry in the water due to salt.
