Journey details

We will pick you up early at your accommodation in San Pedro de Atacama and travel by 4x4 vehicle toward Cerro Quimal, located west of the Atacama Salt Flat in the Domeyko Range. This mountain is one of the most representative summits in the area and offers a different perspective of the desert, with wide views toward the salt flat, the Licancabur Volcano and the surrounding highlands. After reaching the starting point, the guide checks the group’s equipment, explains the route and gives a safety briefing before beginning the ascent. The walk progresses through dry, rocky and exposed mountain terrain, with a steady climb toward the upper section of the mountain. The guide continuously evaluates weather conditions, terrain, wind, pace and the physical condition of each participant. Reaching the summit is an objective, but it is never guaranteed. The guide may slow the pace, modify the route, stop the ascent or begin the descent whenever necessary for the safety of the group.
