Journey details

We will pick you up early at your accommodation in San Pedro de Atacama and travel by 4x4 vehicle toward the base of Cerro Toco. After reaching the high-altitude starting point, the mountain guide checks the group’s equipment, explains the route and gives a safety briefing before beginning the ascent. The walk progresses at a slow and controlled pace through cold, dry and exposed mountain terrain. The guide continuously evaluates weather conditions, terrain, altitude response and the physical condition of each participant. Reaching the summit is an objective, but it is never guaranteed. The guide may slow the pace, modify the route, stop the ascent or begin the descent whenever necessary for the safety of the group. Molantur works with UIMLA-certified mountain guides and holds a SERNATUR registration for high-mountain tourism activities. The experience includes a snack and currently requires no entrance fee.
