FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
Is reaching the summit guaranteed?
No. The summit is an objective, but it is never guaranteed. Weather, wind, terrain, altitude response and the physical condition of the participants determine how far the group can safely progress. The guide’s safety decision is final.
Do I need previous acclimatization?
Yes. Previous exposure above 3,000 meters is strongly recommended before attempting Cerro Toco. This is a high-altitude activity and should not be scheduled as your first excursion after arriving in San Pedro de Atacama.
What mountain equipment is included?
Trekking poles, helmet and gloves can be provided. Mountain shoes and jackets are available only upon prior request and are subject to size and availability. Confirm your equipment requirements with Molantur before the tour.
Are the guides certified for high-mountain activities?
Molantur works with UIMLA-certified mountain guides and holds a SERNATUR registration for high-mountain tourism activities. The guide evaluates the route and makes all operational decisions with safety as the priority.

Explore San Pedro de Atacama, one of the world’s most unique desert destinations, with tours designed for every travel style: shared, semi-private and private experiences.
San Pedro de Atacama is the gateway to some of the most extraordinary landscapes on Earth, including salt flats, volcanoes, geysers, high-altitude lagoons and some of the clearest night skies in the world. Located in northern Chile, this destination combines geology, culture and extreme environments in a compact and accessible area. At Molantur, we offer three types of tour experiences adapted to different travel styles: Shared tours: ideal for travelers looking for a complete experience at an accessible price, with groups of up to 15 passengers and fixed schedules. Semi-private tours: small groups of up to 8 people, designed to provide a more comfortable, flexible and personalized experience while maintaining a balanced cost. Private tours: exclusive service in a private vehicle with a dedicated guide, allowing flexible schedules, custom stops and a fully tailored experience. Due to the high altitude of many destinations (over 4,000 meters), we recommend proper acclimatization and hydration. Each tour includes transportation and a professional guide, while entrance fees to parks are usually paid on site. San Pedro is not only a destination, but a base to explore the Atacama Desert through different levels of comfort, adventure and connection with nature.
